Advantages of Plastic Ampoules
September 26, 2022

Plastic ampoules are mainly used for the packaging of liquid injections and eye drops. Compared with glass ampoules, they have the advantages of not producing glass particles or peeling off, not breaking, not sticking to the hand, easy to open, and easy to transport.

Classification and product advantages of plastic ampoules

According to the material classification, plastic ampoules are mainly divided into polypropylene (PP) ampoules and polyethylene (PE) ampoules. Due to their different chemical compositions and different melting points, their resistance to high temperature sterilization is very different. Polypropylene can withstand high temperature sterilization at 121 °C, while polyethylene generally cannot withstand sterilization above 110 °C.

Due to the different characteristics of their own materials, the difference in application of the two is determined. Polypropylene has good heat resistance, can be sterilized at 121°C, and has high transparency and strength. It is widely used in injections that can withstand terminal sterilization. Polyethylene is mostly used in injections produced by aseptic technology.

The reason why plastic ampoules can be widely used in foreign countries with the development of BFS technology is that their materials have the incomparable advantages of traditional glass ampoules.

A typical glass ampoule production process is as follows:

1. Printing and labeling of empty glass ampoules
2. Cleaning and sterilization of empty glass ampoules
3. Aseptic filling and sealing with ampoule filling machine
4. Sterilization in a sterilizer
5. Blue dye for leak testing:
6. Check
7. Packaging

Under aseptic conditions, the plastic particles are formed in a mould, filled and capped using a plastic ampoule filling capper. The ampoule container is then leak tested, inspected, sterilized in a sterilizer and packaged.

The main advantages of plastic ampoules:

1. Needleless extraction of medicinal liquid
2. Fingers won't cut or stab
3. No glass, bacteria or plastic particles in the liquid
4. The container will not be damaged during operation
5. Convenient storage and transportation
6. Safe, non-polluting waste disposal
