There are extremely strict requirements for the layout of the flow channels and logistics channels in the cleanroom. That is to say, the entry and exit of people and things must follow prescribed procedures. In some dust-free workshops, it is necessary to set up an air shower room to let people pass through the air shower room and use its  high-speed clean air to blow off the dust on the clean work clothes, so as to prevent the dust on the clean work clothes from contaminating the dust-free workshop. Items entering the clean room should pass through the logistics channel. In order to prevent the pollution caused by the items entering the clean room, the items should be passed through the transfer window.

Air shower is also called air shower room, which is mainly composed of fans, filters, nozzles, interlocking doors and control systems.

Figure 6-34 shows a schematic diagram of the principle of a single-person single-side air shower. The clean air filtered by the high-efficiency filter is sprayed from the nozzle, blowing off the dust on the work clothes, the dust-laden air is sucked by the fan through the coarse-efficiency filter, and after being pressurized, it flows through the high-efficiency filter and then is sprayed from the nozzle, and so on. The air shower is equipped with a timing device. After the staff presses the start button, they can enter the air shower room and close the door to blow. After 30~60s, the air shower will automatically stop. At this time, the staff can enter the cleanroom.

Figure 6-35 shows the schematic plan view of the air shower, of which Figure a is a double-sided shower, and Figure b is a single-sided shower. The double-sided air shower is equipped with nozzles on opposite sides. When a person enters the air shower, turning 90° can be blown by the high-speed tangential airflow all over the body. The unilateral shower room has only one side installed with nozzles. When people enter the air shower room, they need to turn the fan to the left (or right) at least 270° to be blown by the high-speed tangential airflow all over the body.

The air shower is divided into single, double and multi-person, etc. The double or multi-person air shower can be assembled in series by a single air shower, or a non-standard multi-person air shower can be made on site according to the conditions of use. The door of the air shower can be made into left-opening, right-opening or three-door type to meet the requirements of the plane layout, as shown in Figure 6-36.

No matter what kind of air shower, it is best to make the two doors in the direction of the flow passage interlocked, that is, the two doors cannot be opened at the same time to prevent the cleanroom from being polluted. If the electronic interlocking device is not installed, when using the air shower, a clean room management procedure should be formulated so that the two doors cannot be opened at the same time.
